In my local I have very few chains from which to purchase hardware, and last I checked, NONE of them had any PCI/USB 802.11 adapters for under $50 USD, and of those there are shit brands (which I wouldn't put in my computer if you paid me to), and name brand N-spec cards, neither of which I think is worth the money.
Chalk your cheap hardware up to the shorter distance between you and South-East Asia......

As I stated, there are two types of wireless adapters that I can currently purchase:
Cheap adapters (That I wouldn't trust in a three hundred dollar motherboard with a three hundred dollar CPU), and Good adapters (that cost more than I'd like to spend).
I have yet to find a good, *inexpensive* desktop PCI wireless card.

So use a cheap USB one until you can afford a decent PCI one.

So use a cheap USB one until you can afford a decent PCI one. ...Just avoid any USB adapters made by Belkin. I speak from experience.

So use a cheap USB one until you can afford a decent PCI one. As I have stated previously, there are three varieties of wireless LAN adapters: 1: Expensive. 2: Inexpensive. 3: Cheap. If you don't see a difference between classes 2 and 3, then this discussion is pointless as you will never get where I'm coming from on this. In any case, I'm planning on building a new desktop (one for which I own more than just the HDD) as soon as I get paid (the check should be in the mail by now), along with a good router (to replace the shitty Actiontek that my ISP installed) with wireless and GigE routing. I also plan on running cables with my Father over the next few weekends; As long as my ass is up early on Saturday, we will prob. make a start this weekend. The current plan calls for two Cat5 drops from the Study to the ONT, one coax drop to the Kitchen, and one drop each of coax and Cat5 to the Family room. The above setup will mean that I won't need wireless for anything but laptops/iPod Touches.....

Uhh, you're a self-righteous douche? When I say "cheap", I mean "inexpensive", and there is absolutely no reason not to spend, say, $20US on a USB wireless adapter from , say, Asus, a company that produces quality products, to bide your time until you can afford a PCI wireless adapter for your motherboard.

237a, Knockoff, y'all chill out. TKO, perhaps it is that he does not live in an area with a large computer parts outlet (ala BestBuy, CircutCity and the like) and the delivery charges would easily place him in excess of his aforementioned maximum price limitation, unless he were to purchase a POS for $5 or thereabouts. 237a, stop being so caustic and do try to avoid verbally attacking those who you have asked for help, and who are trying to do so willingly, for no monetary compensation. So fighting or y'all are going into time out.

Which is why I suggested NewEgg.

Which is why I suggested NewEgg. Which is where I plan to be making a large purchase in the next few weeks, as soon as I have money (My pay for September 16 th to December 1 st). In the meantime, I plan to install CAT5 from my ONT to my study (at least two drops), and from my ONT to my T.V. room. Also, I've got a SHITLOAD of stores that sell computer hardware: Several STAPLES, two CircuitCity stores, a BestBuy store, more RadioShacks than I care to count, a Microcenter, and others besides. I live in the Southwestern suburbs of Philadelphia PA, between King of Prussia and West Chester. However, just because I have all these bastions of retail B&M storage does not mean that any of them choose to stock/sell anything wireless below the $50 USD pricepoint. The only one that might is Microcenter, and until I have money I can't justify going out there (I might end up buying my CPU there, as they seem to have i7 CPU's priced lower than newegg)... Seriously. Hell, I remember back a year or two I was looking *EVERYWHERE* for a copy of Unreal Tournament 2004, and after visiting every store that sold games for over two months (including no fewer than six GameStop/EB stores, two CircuitCity's, a BestBuy, a Staples, Wallmart, Target -- any brick and mortar in my local that sold games) I finally found a beat-up (but still shrinkwrapped) collector's edition. Just goes to show that just because there are stores does not mean they have what people want to buy.

So you were looking for Unreal 2004 in 2006/2007 and you were surprised no one was stocking it?? Errmmm... Surprised?

So you were looking for Unreal 2004 in 2006/2007 and you were surprised no one was stocking it?? Errmmm... Surprised? I went looking for it a few months before UT3 came out. If I'd been looking for it six months earlier, or even two months later I wouldn't have had a problem. What surprised me is that I couldn't find it in any of the more than twenty stores (ones that carry medium-large selections of PC games) I visited. I live right in the middle of one of the heaviest concentrations of retail stores in country, if not the world; That it wasn't on shelves is surprising considering that if I were to go out today I'm sure I could find it (It's in the Unreal Anthology, which I also own). I have major shopping destinations within five minutes, and even larger ones within fifteen-twenty minutes in any direction. That I couldn't find something that mainstream says something.

I dunno when it comes to older games you either get lucky or not and even then it is usually in the pre-owned sections. I usually end up buying online because you can get brand new copies of old games that have been wrapped and stored for long term sale.
