Yeah you are more than right in that respect. However, these things don't happen overnight and it is looking more promising every year. Maybe HDs will become permanent home storage and will synch with your PC/Laptop wirelessly or something along those lines.

The biggest issue I have with SSD's is that there is no good software I'm aware of to recover data from them in the case that things go south.

I mean back in the old days Hard Drive recovery was very difficult.

Really all you need to do with a HDD is look at the low-level data and make a decision about what the magnetic polarity of a region is. That's basically how SpinRite does, and has done it for well over a decade.

SpinRite has been around since the late 1980's.

The impression I got from that site is that it was the Third version that had file reclaiming abilities (1994). The first versions reads as if it is simply a low level formatting software. Although that might just be how it reads. All I know is that when I was younger recovering hard drives was pretty difficult for the average home user.

IIRC, v1 was the first program to non-destructively low-level format a hard drive (without deleting data). Depending on what's up with your drive, this may well be enough to recover your data...

Some PC games (namely DoW: II) require the use of GFWL. No matter how much I hate it, there is no getting around it.

Hey, I was all fine with it till all the 12 year olds finally got their moms to buy the game, got semi-good, and began screaming their pubescent voices at the top of their lungs.

God damn I hate when pubescent males in a game server won't shut the fuck up. Their constant chipmunk-like squeeking greatly irritates me greatly.

Is there such a thing on a console? Probably not in most cases -- the only exception I can think of is LIVE! games that allow PC and XBOX users to interact in the same servers....

Another reason why I like playing on the PC, especially on my server(s) -- if someone comes in and starts being a jackass, they're out. I usually tell them to STFU, and if they don't listen, or if they backtalk -- BAN!

Well with some XBOX Live games the Host has pretty much the same powers. It is all dependent on how they have programmed the multiplayer aspects.

Mostly, the 'Mute' button is sufficient for me, however, I do get those noobs that want me to help them get achievements. This usually ends in me playing along, stabbing them in the back at the very last minute, and taking the achievement for myself (provided I already didn't have it). Fun times.

Achievement whores suck. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against going after achievements, as long as it doesn't take precedence over actually trying to play the game seriously. However, when someone's going after achievements to the point of not being a productive part of the team, they need to go.
