Does Gears2 suck as much as Gears?
Seriously, I got all the way up to the second Berserker without an issue, and then spent three days stuck with her. Then smooth sailing up until the final boss. Seriously, if the difficulty curve is that fucked up, the game has issues.

Wait, are you serious? It takes about a minute to kill her. Don't base a game off of one boss that you have a problem beating.

If I recall, my issue was that I didn't have the "call down an orbital strike" gun on my person, and getting to the one in that room AND THEN killing her proved to be damn near impossible given where the game kept starting me.
What I'm saying is simply that if a game is such that you sail through 95% of it without any trouble and then *can* get stuck on a part for several hours just replaying the same four motherfucking minutes, it has issues. Issues that need to be fixed.
IMO, games shouldn't jump from "so easy my grandmother could beat it, and she has glaucoma, arthritis, and Alzheimer's. And she's been dead for twelve years." to "You need to do this *perfectly* and hope the AI fucks up, or you'll be dead and have to play through the same fucking part all over again." under any circumstances. Ever. GOW did that, ergo it has issues.

Finished GoW and GoW 2 in veteran without any problem.

Best tactic on Horde; Avalanche, and kill a Mauler.
Grab their shield and lam it in the ground on the stairs and you're fackin' sooorted.

There is a hammer of dawn IN THE ROOM YOU FIGHT HER IN! Please refer to my previous post, there you will find: Please refer to the same portion of my previous post. The only two options I had were: 1: Get lucky, and get to the hammer in that room and THEN kill her; or 2: Start from the beginning of the bloody level. All I'm saying is that the game/gameplay is flawed if it sticks the user in this situation. Also, why don't your AI teammates use the hammer? Basically, where it kept starting me put me at the door to that area. From there, I had to navigate around an obstacle (or lure her into busting it apart) and then pickup the Hammer. With this, I had to hit her twice. The problem was that I was only able to hit her (once) every three-four spawns. Broken down, it looked like this: 1/3 -- She got myself or Dom before I got to the Hammer. This started out being about a 50/50 split between me and Dom, and ended up being around a 95/5 split (dom/me). 1/3 -- She got myself or Dom after I got to the Hammer. This stayed around 50/50 mostly due to her getting me *while I was picking it up*, or just after. 1/3 -- She got myself or Dom after I'd gotten the Hammer and hit her once. Also, being more brutally honest, that showed how bad/cheap AI's can be (another, perhaps better example is L4D; note that I'm not ) in that Dom proved to be more of a liability than an asset in that situation, as he did absolutely nothing to help while constantly hindering progress.

Beating the berserker is super easy, you can just walk around her without making noise and she won't even budge.
Use your chainsaw bayonet to make noise and when she charge at you just get out of the way, from there you can get away if you don't make noise.

As I said, it wasn't so much that *I* had a problem moving around quietly, it was that my A.I. companion, Dom, had a problem not making too much noise.

One FAQ I read summed it up quite nicely. "Dom is about as useless as an extra asshole on your elbow." Eh, I found him to at least pull his weight through most of the game -- I wasn't constantly having to babysit him, and he helped tie up the enemy AI long enough for me to take them out without getting hit much. It's just that at that ONE bloody point, having him slowed my progress to an absolute halt. IDK, that's how it goes. TBH, the only over-the-shoulder shooter I really liked is/was Mass Effect.

You know, I've got issues with Gears as well. I mean, it's cool and all, and they managed to nail the stop n' pop thing, to their credit. But I don't like the pacing. Feels too much like this: - Enter an area
- Get ambushed
- Die
- Repeat first three steps until you memorize the locations of the enemies
- Continue to next zone
- Begin from the first step
Also, I've become frustrated enough with the place I'm at that I don't think I'm going to bother finishing it. It's the sequence where you exit the back of Marcus' estate (I think) and you need to rush past a shitload of guys in under a minute before the big bad...thing...comes and smashes your tank. I'll admit that I'm not all that good at the game, but not so bad that I can't enjoy the game on the normal difficulty. This part, however = fail.

Hold on. You're only on normal, and you're having this problem you say? That sounds more like Insane. I got stuck at that point too for a bit, so I went online to find a video of someone getting through it (it helps me to see it done right), at which point I learned that there was a freaking timer that popped up after you kill the second boomer. I had totally missed that timer so I kept doing my usual cautious advance. After I saw the timer, I pretty much just fucking rushed the fuck out of it and made it on my 3rd or 4th try (I got stuck on some scenery and creamed at least once.).... I've also never beaten gears, and I probably never will, at least on the Xbox. I got all the way up to the final boss (IIRC) and I knew the theory on how to kill him, but doing it with a controller proved to be more than I could really manage at the time. Since I've created a live account that is separate from my original account on my xbox, I don't think I'll bother with Gears, as I didn't even get 100 GS from it up to that point anyway....

It would very much be that way if not for the rather innovative situations and scenarios you find yourself in. From the Hammer of Dawn to staying in the light to the tramcar sequence and the splitting up all the time to keep things kind of a varied monotony. And the musical scores were just ... awesome! I mean, seriously, go play Act 5 up to the final boss, and try not to get pumped up. I dare you.

Yeah, 'hardcore'. Whatever fucking stupid buzz-word they wanna use. I, too, noticed that timer pop up the hard way. Even so, if I don't get creamed by the time I get close to the tank, I still run out of time. The last time I tried, I literally only needed a single second more. That pissed me off enough to turn the thing off, likely permanently. Oddly enough, I'm still interested enough to check out Gears 2, although I hear the big deal is in multiplayer, and I ain't paying for online play. F* you, M$.

Alas, 2 has as many annoying bits as the original. Vehicles just as frustrating (flying while aiming is just random), AI just as dumb.
Personally, the mortar shooting with a minigun on Insane was the last straw for me.
Multi is great though, and kicks arse with a system link. Everyone breaking off combat for razor hail always amuses me.

I'm really of the opinion that Gears could have been much better if they'd put maybe another 6-18 months into the AI and done more playtesting to smooth out the difficulty curve.
